How do I know?

Because cleaning data was a major part of my job as a medical statistician. And I don't mean 'major' as in 'important', I mean it took up most of my time. I usually had to spend weeks to clean a single dataset and it seriously impacted on everybody's deadlines, not just my own. So I had to develop a process to get the data analysis-ready quickly.
This process was fine-tuned over several years of being a statistician and this course will teach you the first step of the whole process.
The first thing you need to do is to get organised with your data, how to enter your data onto a single worksheet and how to utilise your entire workbook. When you get organised like this your data cleaning processes become much easier and faster, giving you time to top up your tan at the beach.

This is what you will be learning in Data - Getting Yourself Organised in Excel.

What’s included in the course

This video course - totalling more than an hour of video lessons - will teach you the anatomy of a good worksheet and why it's important to get these basics right from the start.

It will also teach you the anatomy of a good workbook, and how to build a chronological flow into your data cleaning processes so you can detect when, how and where errors were introduced. Everything is explained in simple language and is perfect for beginners.

Lee Baker

I am an award-winning software creator with a passion for turning data into a story.A proud Yorkshireman, I now live by the sparkling shores of the East Coast of Scotland. Physicist, statistician and programmer, child of the flower-power psychedelic ‘60s, it’s amazing I turned out so normal!Every week, while I was working as a statistician at one of the largest research hospitals in Europe, somebody would bring me their new project data and give me the tightest deadline to get it analysed. The problem was that I had to clean it first, which took me weeks every time. So I had to develop a system to get the data analysis-ready quickly – and to also teach researchers how to reduce the errors and mistakes in their data before they gave it to me. This system was fine-tuned over several years of being a statistician, and is what I'll be teaching you in the Data Science University data cleaning courses.I hope you get as much value out of these courses as the hundreds of researchers I've helped over the past decade.
